Acai Berry

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 29, 2008

Power Supplements today announced that they have discovered a disturbing trend in the world of Acai – a significant surge in Acai Spam emails over the last 14 days. Worse still, these Acai spam emails make unsupported claims about weight loss and try to entice customers with “free” trials that can end up costing the customers hundreds of dollars.

“We have been charting unsolicited emails that mention the Acai berry over the last few months, the amount of Acai spam went from non-existent four weeks a go to extreme levels in the last two weeks,” states Bob Peters, communications director at PowerSupplements. “It is bad enough that any company would send spam, but the companies sending this spam are also promising weight loss and luring customers in with free trial offers that end up costing a month if you don’t cancel right away.”

The Acai berry has gained international recognition as one of the highest antioxidant fruits in the world. Dr. Perricone named the Acai berry as the #1 Superfood on the Oprah Winfrey show. Acai has been featured on the Today Shows CBS Early Show, Wall Street Jounal and the New York Times. In addition to the incredible antioxidant levels in the Acai berry, the Acai berry is rich in anthocyanins, fiber, healthy omega fats, amino acids, protein, plant sterols, vitamins and minerals.

The Acai berry has incredible health properties and some people do end up losing some weight while using a quality Acai supplement, but promoting Acai as the next breakthrough in weight loss is unfair. “Acai is such an incredible fruit, with so many health benefits, it is really unfortunate and unnecessary to make these incredible claims of weight loss. Why take something like Acai that is so positive and has helped so many people and misrepresent it as a weight loss product?” asks Bob Peters.

PowerSupplements has reviewed the various Acai spam emails and has found a number of major red flags:

1. No mention of the type of Acai used in their product. Is the Acai spray dried or freeze dried? Is the Acai an organic whole food supplement or an extract? Is the Acai processed within 24 hours of being picked? None of these questions are answered in the typical Acai spam email

2. Read the fine print, you are agreeing to paying a month. All of the Acai free trial emails that PowerSupplements reviewed had fine print that said the customer would be billed close to every month for a 1 month supply of Acai if they did not cancel in 14 days.

3. Lack of studies and clinical data to back up their claims. The typical Acai Spam email is big on weight loss claims and short on any science to support their claims.

In the end, PowerSupplements recommends that customers interested in Acai supplements do their homework and buy quality Acai products. “We of course love our Perfect Acai and new Perfect Acai Revive (rhodiola, cordyceps and Acai combined) products,” states Peters. “But even if you go with another brand just make sure you are getting a quality freeze dried Acai supplement from a reputable source. Otherwise, the only weight you will lose will be from your wallet.”

Ive heard it as an opinion that acai berries might cause cancer, does this hold any truth?

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

I have been taking pills for acai berry and I also drink juices made from acai berries. Recently I have heard it said that because of the area that acai berries grow, they might be bad for you and cause cancer. Is there any truth at all to this?
