How To Make A Healthy And Delicious Salad
Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011We all know that salad is good for us, it is low in fat and high in nutrients, so why do people think they are depriving themselves if they have one? I think a salad is one of the tastiest meals you can make. I know that to some people the taste will be strange, and they won’t find it as filling or satisfying as their fried chicken or pizza, but once you start to move away from those unhealthy foods then you don’t miss them and you can start to appreciate how tasty fruit and vegetables are.
Eating salads for every meal is not a healthy way to lose weight though, you should use them as part of a proper diet like the Fat Burning Furnace. Below are some tips on how to make a great salad.
Wash your veg. Vegetables are bursting with of nutrients, but because the farmers need to get bumper crops to survive nowadays then you might find the skins are covered with all sorts of chemicals. You do want to eat the vegetable, but you definitely don’t want to eat those chemicals and have them getting into your body. Farmes use fertilizers on the soil which can come into contact with vegetables that grow on the ground, and obviously pesticides have to be used to stop bugs eating or destroying the crops, so giving the skin of the veg a good wash before you eat it will remove a lot of those chemicals.
Don’t be afraid to add fruit. I know that typically when you think of a salad then you think of a bed of lettuce with some tomatoes and cucumber etc in there, but there are not hard and fast rules about what should be in there. Something as simple as adding some segments of orange can really give your salad a different character, or apple is a great addition which gives it sweetness and crunch. As you get more experienced with making salad then experiment a little and see what works and what doesn’t.
Add some cheese for taste. We need a bit of everything, fat included, to stay healthy, so cheese is a great way to add some fat into your salad. I think some broken pieces of nice tasting cheese are a critical piece of any good salad. It will add a whole world of flavor to it, and if you make sure you grab a little bit of everything when you take a mouthful, then it brings out the other flavors too.
Skip those special dressings. A lot of those dressings which people add to their salad to give it more flavor are packed full of fat and sugar and add lots of unnecessary calories So instead of using those fancy dressings then I just use normal vinegar instead, then crack some black pepper over the top so it sticks to it – then you have loads of taste without loads of calories.
